Swimming in the stars

The Story behind the photo

From above, this polar bear looks like it’s drifting through a night sky, tiny ice floes scattered like constellations around him. In reality, he’s cutting a steady line through an Arctic ice field, weaving between chunks of sea ice in water that would steal our breath in seconds. Watching him move with such quiet purpose in this frozen chaos felt surreal – as if time slowed and the whole scene became an abstract painting.

This image was photographed from high altitude with a drone, using a zoom lens and additional cropping to keep a respectful distance. The bear was never disturbed – wildlife always comes first. This print is my way of sharing that moment of calm, wild magic on the ice, a reminder of how small we are in their world – and how vital it is that we protect it.

Here’s what makes each print special:

  • Ink: Canon Lucia Pro Pigment Inks

  • Printer: Canon imagePROGRAF PRO Series

  • Paper: Fotospeed NST Bright White 315 Signature Paper – a gorgeous 315gsm matte paper made from 100% cotton rag, with a soft, natural texture. It’s Fine Art Trade Guild–approved and, with these inks, is designed to last over 85 years.

The listed size is the paper size. Each print has a thin white border on the top, left and right, with a deeper white border on the bottom for signing and numbering. This means it’s easy to trim for US-standard frames. Prints are unframed and unmounted – this way, you can choose a frame that suits your home or workspace perfectly.

The Print

This photograph is part of a limited edition of just 35 prints, split between:

Each one is a hand-signed archival giclée print that I create myself in my home studio. I only sign and number a print once I’m completely happy with the quality, and every order comes with a certificate of authenticity – my personal seal of approval.
